The following was taken from the Greenberg’s Guide to Marx Toys Vol. #2
Busy Airport Garage: 1936. This imaginative toy consists of the Britelight Filling Station with the air pump previously described and in addition, several 6” cars; an ambulance, tank truck, dump truck, bus, roadster and racer. The cars were also sold by themselves for the average price of $0.10. An airplane with a 9-3/8” wingspan completes the toy.
The cardboard box for the toy can be set up as a lithographed garage measuring 10-1/2” X 8” X 10”. The toy sold for $1.00 in the 1936 Sears Christmas catalog.
Every once in a while a collector purchases something that completes a collection, for me this is one of those toys. This example was not previously known to exist with this variation of box and to find one in near mint condition with box insert and original instructions for the Britelight filling station is beyond rare. It even included the original wax paper that the light bulb was wrapped in (the light bulb pictured is not original). Furthermore to make this toy even more special it still retains the original “Sears, Roebuck AND Co. Retail Store” price tag affixed on the bottom of the box.
Note the fingerprint. It was done at the factory by one of the Marx employees. The mark goes into the finish, the piece had not yet dried.
