Army Scout Car (Truck): Circa 1939 type 5 truck: 10” long.
This olive drab painted truck has stamping on the side of the bed that says a ”Army Scout Car”, which is peculiar since this is clearly a truck. The grill and headlight and bumper are made from one piece of tin and there’s also a thin strip running up to Center of the hood. The bed of the “Army Scout Truck” is identical to earlier trucks like the Ice Truck or the Baggage Truck Marx made however this truck is made entirely of tin instead of pressed steel. The tin makes the truck flimsy but it is still durable and lighter weight. The bed of the truck is made to hold four tin “Soldiers of Fortune” soldiers. The soldiers are held in place by two riveted spring-loaded clips it is believed that the soldiers came with the truck and did not have to be purchased separately.
According to the Greenberg’s guide to Marks toys volume to the characteristics of a type five truck are noted by the one piece combination of the grill headlights in front bumper as well as the two holes above the running board on the frame of the truck also the front windshield is lacking a center bar and the spacing of the windshield and windows is greater than the type six truck.
