Snappy The Miracle Dog: 1931. 3-1/2” X 2-1/2”.
The uncommon Snappy is a white bull Terrier with Brown patches and a red collar. He came with a lithographed steel doghouse, which measures 4-1/2” X 4-1/4” X 3-1/3”. The house is colorfully lithographed with shingles on the roof and animals on the sides. Lettering reads “Snappy” above the arch-shaped opening of the house. Lettering on one side of the opening reads “Beware of the Dog” and on the other side “Snappy the Miracle Dog”.
According to the October 1931 Butler Brothers catalog, Snappy runs out of his doghouse when he is pressed against the spring action inside. Snappy the Miracle Dog is also listed in Kovel’s Antiques and Collectables Price list.
In 1931 Snappy the Miracle Dog sold for 2.15 a dozen, Wholesale.
The patent for this toy is number 1,514,216, and was filed January 5, 1924. The patent and the toy are basically the same except that the patent illustration shows a platform under the house and the dogs roof slopes backwards rather than from center to each side.
