Marx Mack Truck Prototype, "American Railway Express Co." is hand panted on body of the truck on both sides as is " SHIPP BY EXPRESS" and "No 145" on both doors. The entire upper body of the truck is hand tools and hand painted unlike the bottom portion as well as the wood and bumper which are all stock. The yellow paint used by the R&D department has started to alligator but it still retains a shine. The red accents throughout the truck are also hand painted. The metal grating used on the side of the truck is similar to "ranch wire" or "chicken wire" but is ridged and appears to be soldered into place. The car door is attached with tabs and is missing its latch handle.
This prototype came from a collection that was purchased when the Marx factory was sold off. It is rumored to have been purchased by one of the lawyers who helped broker the sales. This is the first time this prototype has been sold on the open market.
It is clear that this prototype has had a rough life and spent some time with its driver’s side wheels in standing water. Both drivers side wheels have rust holes in them and the rear wheels shows signs of where the water level was.
