Dump Truck 1928
The description below was taken from the Greenburg’s Guide To Marx Toys Vol.2
“Dump Truck (Medium): 1928 10”long. This colorful windup truck has a dark red cab and hood with black outlining, the Marx logo on the front of the hood, and orange underframe similar to the Royal Oil Co Truck…a dark green bumper and wheels and a manually operated dumper body. The front Wheels can be set in three different positions. The bed of the truck is medium blue on the outside and red on the inside.
The black-dressed driver of the truck is made out of the same piece of metal as the steering wheel. This truck also comes in a version with a green underframe.
In 1926 the Sears catalog advertised another Marx Dump Truck of the same size, which was sold with a working sand crane. Both items sold for 48 cents, a bargain price even in those days. 100.00 250.00”
The description above is different than the truck pictured below. The truck pictured is an early variation: I believe that in a cost cutting strategy that Marx stopped adding the windshield in later models of the dump truck. I also believe that they stopped doing the extensive lithography on them. Many of the common dump trucks for sale in auctions do not show these variations.
