Reversible Tricky Taxi Prototype: 4-1/2” long, Dated 9-4-36
The Tricky Taxi was first produced in 1935 in several color variations, green and white, black and white, orange and white, red and white and yellow and white. Around 1948 the lithography of the Tricky Taxi was redesigned slightly with a checkerboard pattern and its production continued into the 1950’s.
The prototype listed here shows two modifications, the first is a self-reversing wind up motor. When wound and placed on a hard surface the Tricky Taxi will run until it hits an obstacle and then it will reverse its self and continue until it hits another obstacle. This toy does work as it is supposed to, and it runs fast.
The second modification to this Tricky Taxi is the covered rear wheels. The production models are all exposed.
