Marx Tractor and Trailer Set, Circa early 1930.
This set consists of a standards 8-1/2” long metal wind up tractor and a trailer measuring 5-1/2” long by 4” wide and having four wooden wheels, two of which are attached directly to the trailer and the other two wheels are attached to a dolly that has a trailer hook up for the tractor and then a hole for a tongue that the trailer has.
This trailer was used in many many Marx toy sets from the early 1930’s through the 1950’s. They can be seen used on trucks and various farm sets as well as on some of the military toys Marx produced. The earlier tractors were produced by Girard and came with tin hubcaps that had a hole pattern around the axle. Later Marx transitioned to just a plain wooden wheel either in black or a yellow. Eventually Marx began making tin “Balloon” tire wheels for these trailers.
